Abstract： |
According to the different back-grounds of urban transition, this paper categorizes cases into global city and industry city. Transitional characteristics of economic, social and spatial structure are identified based on case studies on Tokyo, London and New York City as global cities and on Manchester, Pittsburgh, Dortmund and Essen as industrial cities. Then the paper analyzes functional orientation, spatial planning and implementation strategy of urban transition. It concludes with the function of urban planning in the process of urban transition. |
