Comparative Study on the Development of Urban-rural Fringe Between China and Western Countries

Abstract:

The urban-rural fringe is not only a transition zone between city and country, it has formed its unique landscape and development characteristics. Both in China and western counties, the urban-rural fringe is a kind of area filled with contradictions, but it is great different in the spatial distribution, development features and functions, formation and development mechanism as well as the problems and countermeasures. Generally speaking, the urban-rural fringes in China are confronted with more complex and grievous troubles. Drawing lessons from western countries and considering the individual situation of our country, the paper presents some advices on the rebuilding and regulation of urban-rural fringe.
